Localization Project Management

for QUALCOMM Flarion Technologies

QFT makes FLASH-OFDM wireless network cards that easily support standard computing devices, such as notebooks, PDAs and IP-based digital cameras. Its products are in use on OFDM networks throughout the world.

QFT's previous localization efforts were undertaken by in-country partners. This sufficed for initial entry to global markets, but the process was incurring the growing pains of poor scalability, dependence on distributors and loss of control of the final product.

For a recent version of its Wireless Network Card and Wireless Network Modem products, QFT engaged John White of 1-for-All for both localization project management and translation services. Although the software remained in English, the User Guide and Quick Start Guide were localized into Finnish and Slovak. 1-for-All's localization expertise helped QFT with:

  • development and maintenance of term lists (glossaries) in each language

  • review loops with in-country partners

  • documentation internationalization, to reduce the quantity and scale of differences between English original editions and editions handed off for translation

  • project pacing and scheduling

  • localized text to explain English software screenshots

The resulting product was well received by QFT's local distributors and wireless carriers, who approved of the translation quality and welcomed the short time to market.

"Our projects change often and without warning, and John White stays with us though every change. His ability to spot potential trouble spots and guide us through the complex process of multi-language translations has enabled us to meet our deadlines and satisfy our customers."
